They come out of the same minutes as phone calls, and they are cheaper: a WhatsApp minute counts as 0.8 of a plan minute because there is no phone line to pay for. A call you start on WhatsApp adds WhatsApp's per-country fee (about $0.024 a minute to Germany, added the way an expensive destination is). A WhatsApp message, sent or received, counts as about 0.13 of a minute. Past your plan's minutes, minutes cost your plan's per-minute rate and a message 1¢, from your credit balance. WhatsApp is on every plan.
Texts come out of the same minutes as calls. Carriers bill a text per segment (160 plain characters, or 70 with emoji or special letters) and bill received texts too, so each segment, sent or received, uses about 0.12 of a plan minute. Once your minutes are used up a segment costs 1¢ from prepaid credit. Receiving texts works straight away; to send, you enable texting on a number once and we register it with the carriers for you, which usually takes 1 to 5 business days. AI replies to texts are optional, off by default, and part of the Team and Scale plans. Texts go to numbers in the same country as your number.
